A house full of history
k.u.k. Hofbäckerei is an Austrian bakery located in Linz, Upper Austria. Our house was first mentioned in 1371 as a house of the bakers' guild and has permanently been owned by bakers since 1570. Our beautiful wooden facade was built in 1889 and therefore is the oldest well kept facade in town.
Master of his trade
Today´s owner, Fritz Rath, is a fifth generation master baker. From his childhood on, he has been part of the bakers business and as a young man had the chance to work in bakeries in Sweden, England and Germany. You may taste this expertise in the wonderfull rolls, breads and pastries he offers in his shop every day.
In 1903 his great-grandfather, Karl Helletzgruber, was appointed purveyor to the Chamber of His
Majesty, Archduke Peter Ferdinand of Habsburg-Lothringen Toscana, who lived in Linz.This honourfull heritage is perpetuated until today by combining high quality ingredients with old family recipies.
